Hormonal contraceptive pills, which are divided into combination pills and mini pills, have become the most popular contraceptive method used by women. The contraceptive pills have proven to be the most effective method for preventing pregnancy in women. Combination pills consist of two artificial female hormones of oestrogen and progesterone while the mini pills consists of only one female hormone, the progesterone. Combinations pills are often referred to as the pill, while the mini pills are also referred to as progesterone only pills.
Cilest is one of the most popular combination pills, which is used by women around the world. It consists of ethinylestradiol (artificial oestrogen, 35 micrograms) and norgestimate (artificial progesterone, 0.25 milligrams) as its active ingredients. One of the major benefit or advantage of this combination pill, apart from that of prevention of pregnancy is that it can regulate your periods as well as reduce the pain and discomfort caused because of menstrual cramps. At times, this pill is also prescribed for reducing the symptoms caused by endometriosis.
You are supposed to take this contraceptive pill for 21 days of your menstrual cycle, with a 7 day break in between. You are likely to have your periods during this 7 day break. Women who are 18 years old or above can take this pill, but should be avoided by those who are pregnant or are breastfeeding, as it can harm the baby. Some of the side effects that you can experience while taking the pill include headaches, vomiting, nausea, breast tenderness, changes in your weight, vaginal thrush and fluid retention.
